Consent for my child to take part in cricket and acceptance of risk

By registering my child to take part in cricket at SMCC, I give my consent for my child to take part in cricket activities organised by Streatham and Marlborough Cricket Club (SMCC) and I realise that:

  • Like most cricket clubs, SMCC is a non-profit community amateur sports club run by the endeavours of its member parents in their spare time with limited training and support from cricket's governing bodies, and as such, the levels of safety and safeguarding that can be provided will always be limited by the available human and financial resources. Players and parents must share responsibility for their own safety and safeguarding, for example by following club rules and supervising children at all times while not in coached sessions.

  • While SMCC aims to make cricket as safe as it reasonably can, cricket is not a risk-free activity, and while rare, injuries can and will sometimes occur.

  • While training is conducted by paid coaches and we endeavour to always meet the ECB's ClubMark guidelines regarding supervision ratios and coaching qualifications, there may be times when we are working towards those guidelines, for example where coaches leave and need to replaced, or where coaches are unable to be at training due to sudden and unforeseen circumstances. The club will apply a 'common sense' approach to balancing the need to continue providing cricket activities while always striving to meet the ClubMark and other relevant best practice guidelines.

  • Matches outside of coached sessions are (like other cricket clubs) run by parent volunteers who have not necessarily been provided with any formal training in how to run cricket

  • Like most cricket clubs, there may sometimes be potential dangers around the ground and other indoor and outdoor cricket venues visited by the club, such as lawnmowers, chemicals and cracks in the pitch, and that outside of coached sessions, it is parents' responsibility to supervise their children when at the SMCC grounds, in travel to matches or at other venues used for cricketing activities.
