For potential new parents, this is a summary of the junior cricket offered at the club and how to get started. There is no annual membership fee as such, each part of our cricketing year (autumn term, spring term, summer season and holiday camps) can be paid for separately.
You are not obliged to book into all of these, though naturally the more that players train, the better they and their teams will become, and the more they will probably enjoy their cricket.
Autumn and Spring term training is run by our training partners, 360 Cricket. It is open to all and can be booked through their website at 360 Cricket. 360 Cricket are our coaching partners and they handle the admin for our autumn and spring term indoor courses and holiday camps.
You can find more information on timings, costs and locations at autumn and spring term indoor training.
New players attending autumn or spring term training will be in phase 2 of our summer booking process. This does not guarantee a place in the summer, but does give you priority booking; typically more than 80% of players booked into our indoor courses are able to book into the summer.
Summer term training includes outdoor training and matches, and use of the club's nets.
Full information on summer term training can be found at Summer term
Summer membership is handled directly by the club via Spond. Bookings open in January. We have a three phase sign-up process - first to last year's members, then to those who attended autumn or spring term training, and then to everyone else.
The best way to stay up to date with bookings for next summer is to join our mailing list via Spond
Holidays camps are open to everyone. They are run by 360 Cricket and can be booked on their website at 360 Cricket.
Clubs are typically run during the October half term, Februay half term, Easter holidays and Summer holidays. They may be indoor or outdoor depending on the season.
More information on holiday camps can be found at Holiday camps
Those interested in signing up for any of our sessions should join our mailing list via Spond. This will keep you fully informed of all upcoming sessions being offered.
Although there is no annual membership, players must be registered before taking part in any cricket session. We do this in our online registration & payment system.
See Summer season - how to book and read the information about our three phase summer sign-up process.
No. For the purposes of voting at the club's Annual General Meeting, we treat payment for the summer as "membership". Parents have a vote per junior member. Juniors who have played regularly in senior cricket can vote for themselves.
No. Experience of cricket is not necessary, but some familiarity with the game helps, so even if it’s not practical for you to teach/play the game at home, we would certainly encourage you to try to watch some cricket - for example search on YouTube for "The Hundred highlights" or “IPL highlights” - there are many hours worth of exciting games available to watch for free. The Hundred has been a great showcase for women's cricket.
In the summer, we accept players from school year Reception upwards. At indoor training, we start from Year 1.
In line with ECB Clubmark guidelines, for all players up to age 17 we must have parental permission for them to play. Players 18 years old and over enlist with the club as adults.
Players should be booked into the correct session for their age-group as shown below.
We operate a mailing list via Spond.
Please note that we always put information on the website first, before sending out messages, so if you can't find information on the website, it has not been released yet and there's no need to email us.
Everyone on the mailing list will normally get information about the opening up of bookings as the same time by email, though there may be occasions when we message existing members in advance of the wider mailing list.
Bookings for indoor training, the summer term and summer camps are all on a first paid, first served basis.
If you want to join a session or two as a taster, you can do so (after contacting us at smcccolts@gmail.com to let us know you want to come and registering in Spond). If your child doesn't enjoy it, you won't owe us anything. If your child does want to continue, we ask you to pay a fee that covers the sessions that you have already attended.
We have club clothing. You are not obliged to buy club clothing, but it is very popular and nearly all parents buy a club shirt and cap for junior players.
Autumn term and srping term 2025 indoor training costs : SMCC indoor training with 360 Cricket - Is £145 for a course of 10 x 1 hour sessions or £220 for a course of 10 x 90 minute sessions. There are no sibling discounts for indoor training.
Summer term costs (2025): There is a single fee covering training, matches and year-round access to the grounds to use nets outside of official club training times. This fee is to be paid to the club (not 360 Cricket) via the Spond app. For 2025:
The U5/6s (Reception & Y1) and U7s (Y2) Sessions (both 60 minute training sessions) were £120
The. majority of the remaining sessions (90 minute training sessions) were £180
Girls U16-25s: £60 (All players under 18 should be registered as a junior even if playing in senior cricket only; concession rate per-session training fees and match fees also apply for women's cricket). Rises to £90 if not paid by 15 May.
Development Squad - School year 11+ (Boys Under 16-25s): £75 (all under 18s should be registered as a junior; concession rate match fees also apply for senior games). Rises to £90 if not paid by 15 May. Development Squad summer training is also optional to be paid separately via the Teamo app.
There are no match fees for junior games. Reduced match fees (50%) apply in senior games and Development Squad games. These are to be paid via the Teamo app. Match fees primarily pay for the food and drinks that are provided during the tea interval. See the men's and women's pages on our main website for details.
Sibling discounts: Our online payment system does not enable us to process sibling discounts, however, you will instead get the equivalent value back in the form of a 'bar tab' for £30 per child (after the first) which can be used to purchase drinks, food or anything else that is available for purchase from the bar at the clubhouse. Please ask about this at the bar.
Holiday camps (during the school holidays) - prices for 2026 will be confirmed in due course per camp, but in 2025 the cost was approximately £50/day (9am-3pm) with discounts for booking multiple days. There are no sibling discounts for summer camps.
Yes, providing there is remaining space. Players joining mid-way though an indoor course or mid-way through the summer period will pay on a pro-rated basis for the remainder of the period or course only. If you are signing up online and the cost does not look right, please contact us.
New players can join at any time, as long as we have space. If you want your child to attend a taster session, we will be happy for you to do so where we have space available. If your child doesn't enjoy it and doesn't wish to continue, then you won't owe the club anything. If your child does wish to continue, we normally ask you to pay for the sessions already attended. We find that the majority of kids trying cricket with us love it and want to continue.
SMCC is proud of our "ability to pay is not a barrier to play" policy and bursary fund.
If you have a player who wants to play but you will have difficulty with the fees, please let us know of your circumstances and we will be happy to discretely discuss an affordable fee smcccolts@gmail.com.
For those on very low or no incomes, we can potentially also provide assistance with purchasing clothing and equipment.
We regularly benchmark our fees against around 15 other local clubs. Some clubs charge separate membership and training fees. Some clubs charge match fees in addition to membership. Some clubs do not offer sibling discounts. But on the whole, our prices are neither the highest nor the lowest, and our survey of parents suggests that we provide good value for money.
We are incorporated as a company limited by guarantee, but we are a not-for-profit sports club, run by volunteering, elected members for the good of the community.
The fees we charge are used to pay for coaching, pitch hire, balls, insurance and so on, and to make a proportionate contribution to the general running and upkeep of the club.
Nearly all of the running of the club is done by members volunteering their time, but the club has outgoings in the region of £150-200k per year.
The junior section, after paying for its own costs, typically contributes around £25,000 to the general upkeep of the club. This covers the juniors' share of ground rent, grounds maintenance, building maintenance, insurance, utility bills and so on.
Finances are reviewed several times per year by the club's Executive Committee, on which the juniors have 2-3 representatives. Accounts are published annually as part of the club's Annual General Meeting, and in line with ECB ClubMark guidelines, our accounts are also checked each year by a qualified accountant.
At present, the club typically makes a surplus of around £20-25k per year, which we re-invest into the club.
